HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As we roll into the new year and turn our attention to focusing on improving our lives, we can also use the time to reflect upon, and improve, our photography. It is as good a time as any to look back over your portfolio of work and decide where you would like to see it develop. To help you achieve your goals, WPM will be bringing you helpful guides, top tips and advice over the coming year, along with new and fresh features to inspire you. Don’t forget to also take a look at all of the free content articles that can be found on our website.
With a wonderfully winter theme, award-winning, professional photographer Drew Buckley gives his unique insight into photographing Mountain Hares in winter; a photography challenge in extreme conditions. Taking us to a warmer climate, Archaeologist and photographer Matt Stirn takes us on an entertaining journey to Panama, where his photography promotes the conservation efforts that are supporting the elusive Azuero Spider Monkeys and their habitat.
In our first issue of 2019 we also review John E. Marriott’s latest book, Tall Tales, Long Lenses; a chronological account of his impressive and heartening career as a wildlife photographer, accompanied by stunning images, and an inspiring read for any photographer.
We had so many fantastic entries for our latest reader photo challenge: Reptiles (distinguished by having a dry, scaly skin and typically laying soft-shelled eggs on land), exhibiting crocodiles, snakes and lizards. To keep up to date on all our photo challenges, follow us on Instagram @ wildplanetphotomag.
Along with all of our regular features, we also introduce some of our favourite wildlife images from the 2018 International Travel Photographer of the Year awards. Amateur and professional photographers from 142 countries submitted over 20,000 images, and photographers from 22 countries feature amongst the winners.
So, if that isn’t enough inspiration to start planning your 2019 photography goals, we don’t know what is! All of the team at WPM wish you a happy and productive New Year.
