Red-bellied woodpecker and Northern flicker, Illinois, United States by Sandra Rust

Picture Story

Red-bellied Woodpecker and a yellow-shafted Northern Flicker Squabbling over a nesting hole in the tree. The Northern Flicker was very vocal and feisty over the Red-bellied Woodpecker trying to nest in one of the holes on the tree, even though there were many holes available. The Northern Flicker seemed much more aggressive than the Red-bellied. The fight went on and off during the day. And who do you think won the tree / hole, the Northern Flicker won the tree.
