Spider, Surrey, United Kingdom by Ben Nicholson

Picture Story

During lockdown I was the same as everyone, experimenting with new things to keep myself busy. I was meant to on a trip to Costa Rica during April lockdown, and I had purchased a macro lens and flash specially for it however this obviously didn't go to plan. I went out almost every day to try and put it to good use in my garden. I had found a whole new world to explore. Every log, every bush, every flower bed was alive with a whole ecosystem I had never really paid much attention to. One afternoon, I watched a spider shed its skin and begin to weave a new web. I wanted to create a very powerful black and white image so I used a flash to isolate the background and illuminate it’s semi-transparent exo-skeleton.
