Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) father pauses from playing with his daughter, as they bask in the golden evening light. We saw this dad interact and play with each of the three kits in this den. When he came home to the den, the energy level really amped up. When the mother Fox interacted with the kits, it usually involved cleaning them, nursing them or biting their ears to get them to hold still. Dad, on the other hand, proved to be an enthusiastic playmate. He seemed to enjoy chasing the kits, play fighting with them, and generally acting like an overgrown juvenile. All of the kits appeared to absolutely adore him.
