Male Lion, Marakele National Park, South Africa by Sabrina Colombo

I was out in the field on a monitoring drive when I found this young male lion together with his sisters in a remote area of the park. It was one of those lucky sighting where the lions were clearly visible as they were lying just on the verge of the road. A perfect occasion to take great identification photos as well as habituating them to the presence of the vehicle. As it often happens, wild animals who live in inaccessible areas, are more difficult to monitor. That is why, each sighting in which they are well visible, is really important to collect relevant data material and try to make them understand that the vehicle is not a threat, keeping a good, respectful distance.
