While objectively Covid-19 has brought many challenges worldwide, it also taught us to use our time in a different way and to appreciate the small things that life has to offer us. in my daily and busy life in the bush, I have never really spent time looking at the small animals in the garden. However, it is wonderful to see how many different birds and reptiles populate the areas just outside our homes! Woodland kingfishers, pigmy kingfishers, violet backed starlings, cisticolas, larks, starlings, waxbills, finches are just a few to mention.
To photograph this cisticola, I was incredibly lucky. I was slowly walking towards a blue waxbill perching in a bush, when suddenly this cisticola landed in front of me, at about one metre or so of distance. I immediately froze and although I was completely astonished by this unexpected surprise, I managed to take a few photos of the bird while it was happily calling. After about a minute, it flew away. What a wonderful and precious garden sighting!!!!
(No bait/food was ever used to take this photo).
