Black Headed Ibis, Mangalajodi, Odisha, India by Ajit Huilgol

The northern tip of one of India's largest fresh water lake, Lake Chilika, lies the village of Mangalajodi. Birds from all over the world flock in their thousands to this part of Lake Chilika to feed on fish, frogs, crustaceans, and also snakes! The most notorious of the snake feeders are black-headed ibis, purple heron and grey heron. The boatmen and guides are experts in seeking out those birds that are hunting snakes. Once a potential predator is identified, all that one needs is patience.
