Azure Kingfisher, Kakadu National Park, Australia by Lewis Burnett

Often the easiest way to find these little birds out on the wetlands is by listening out to their high pitched chirp. For such a brilliantly coloured bird they are actually surprisingly well camouflaged whilst tucked away in a freshwater mangrove tree. This particular individual was an absolute dream to photograph, darting back and forth from his favourite perch into the water and back ! We were able to get close enough to capture this intimate portrait without disturbing his usual feeding behaviour.
