It’s not just the sheer volume of animals before your eyes that makes the Great Wildebeest Migration, in northern Serengeti National Park, one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world.

It’s the absolute chaos that tens of thousands of blue wildebeest crossing the Mara River all at once causes; an almost deafening roar of every single wildebeest bellowing contact calls to their herd, mixed with the sounds of so many animals churning the water under their massed hooves, and pounding the earth on either side of the river with such determination that you can almost feel the ground moving beneath you...
