Interview with Marco Ronconi

A nature photographer born in a small town in northern Italy. He seeks to celebrate the beauty of a landscape or fleeting encounter with wildlife with simplicity, giving as much importance to what is not seen and is left to the imagination. His photography is more a process of exclusion than inclusion, using the subtle power of empty spaces. He believes that photography is a creative way to spread knowledge of a specific area or an animal species, but also to share beauty.

Clare Disano talks to award-winning, Italian nature and wildlife photographer, Marco Ronconi, about his latest creative project titled ‘Chiaro Scuro’ and asks where his inspiration comes from. Drawn to desolate locations that provide a purity to his work, Marco's photography captures the beauty of both landscapes and wildlife with such simplicity, leaving as much as possible to the imagination.

Can you tell us about what you have been doing photographically over the last couple of years?
That’s an interesting question, as it's probably more about what my photographic process has been over the last two years, as I moved in two fundamental directions; a process of continuous polishing and simplifying.

My vision and my approach to photography are based on simplicity. I believe that my photography goes in the opposite direction to what often happens nowadays...
