CUPOTY: Interview with co-founder Tracy Calder

Editor and writer, Tracy Calder is a co-founder of CUPOTY. She has worked on the editorial team of eight photography books and wrote the expanded guide to Macro & Close-up Photography. Her work has been featured in more than thirty consumer magazines and exhibited in London galleries.

I remember catching up with you at The Photography Show in Birmingham quite some time back, way before the first CUPOTY launched. Even then, the vision of what you wanted to create was firmly in your mind. Can you tell us how the idea for a competition dedicated to close-up photography came about?
I’ve been a fan of close-up photography for more than a decade now, but until recently I didn’t really understand why. Sure, I enjoyed the sense of discovery I felt when looking at plants, insects and manmade objects up close, but there was something else I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
