Born Free launches summer photography competition
To raise awareness of its latest campaign against trophy and canned hunting, international wildlife charity Born Free is calling on budding photographers to submit their best wildlife photos to its new #ShootToThrill photography competition.
Running throughout summer, anyone with a camera is encouraged to snap photos of wildlife at its best - in the wild. Whether the focus is on an animal right here in the stunning UK countryside or coastline, or a more exotic species from people’s summer vacations around the world, all photos will be accepted as long as they portray the beauty of freedom.
Photographers - all ages and skills accepted - have until Monday 30th September 2019 to submit their photos. All entries will then be uploaded to Born Free’s Facebook page and the public invited to vote for the favourite to determine the winner.
The winner will receive an incredible prize including a professional lesson with Born Free’s in-house photography team, a copy of their photograph presented on canvas and signed by Born Free’s founder and actress Virginia McKenna, as well as a whole host of goodies from the Born Free shop.
Howard Jones, CEO of Born Free, said:
“Hundreds of thousands of innocent animals have been murdered by trophy hunters in the last decade alone. Most hunters claim that the money they pay to the hunting outfitters helps wildlife conservation and local economy, but it’s all a myth - in fact, research shows that alternative activities, such as photographic tourism, can generate far more revenue from wildlife than trophy hunting.
“Animals belong in the wild, not on a wall. If it has to be the latter, then photography is surely the answer, hence we are launching this competition. Of course, we want people to be connected with wildlife, and experience the thrill and pure delight that can be enjoyed when watching animals in their natural state, but this should be through the lens of a camera and not down the barrel of a gun.
“We live in a world filled with natural beauty and I cannot wait to see the photographs that are submitted to us. From British wildlife right on our doorsteps, to the kings and queens of the jungles, savannahs, deserts and the seas - wherever people are holidaying this summer there is wildlife just waiting to be admired and we want to share those precious memories on camera with the world.”
To submit a photograph, simply email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 30th September 2019, confirming the location where the picture was taken, along with the photographer’s name, age and contact details.
