Interview with: Rosamund Kidman Cox

With the next Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, open for entries in October 2019, we talk to Chair of the jury, writer and editor, Rosamund Kidman Cox, about how this prestigious competition has developed, its ethics and her experience as a judge for almost thirty years.

How did you first become involved with judging Wildlife Photographer of the Year, nearly thirty years ago, and could you have ever foreseen the competition becoming so hugely prestigious and important on an international scale back then?
When I became editor of what was then Wildlife magazine (forerunner of BBC Wildlife) – the original owner of the competition – it was surprisingly difficult to find quality images, especially colour ones. Relaunching the competition was the obvious way to find new photographers. So I added categories, an exhibition and a competition exclusively for young photographers...
