Interview with Chris Schmid
Wildlife photographer and filmmaker Chris Schmid has embarked on a two year documentary project which aims to reconstruct the lives of Africa’s wildlife. He talks to WPM about drones, human-lion conflict and his fascination with mysterious animals

You first began your journey into photography during a six month trip to Australia in 2005. What drew you to nature and wildlife?
As a young child I was fascinated with nature and art. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of nature and sports in magazines and books, I would then sketch what I saw with pencils. I picked up my first camera in high school and then left for Australia for seven months to study English but also for swimming. During swimming competitions I was really impressed by these people who were able to capture such beautiful single moments, but more specially by the work of Adam Pretty and Jim Brandenburg.
