Most wildlife photographers would jump at the chance to photograph polar bears in the wild, but how many of them know that they are the only bears to be considered a marine mammal? Or that their fur is actually transparent and that they have black skin?
Today, 27th February, is International Polar Bear Day, so the folks at Travel Manitoba are helping the public to explore some of the wildest facts about these incredible animals.
Some of the most astonishing facts include that these bears can smell prey up to 16km (10 miles) away and that they can slow down their metabolism if they go for 7-10 days without eating.
